Library-Cum-Documentation Unit (SRC Bangalore)
The Library-Cum-Documentation Unit purchased 330
new books and 5 CD ROM on history/ Monuments of India and allied
subjects. It is also subscribing to 75 journals. Among the important
collections of the Documentation Unit are the rare Revenue Maps
published by Government of Karnataka. The Centre has 834 maps
of Southern India published by the Survey of India and Revenue
Department. The Centre has also collected complimentary copies
of 47 books including journals from institutions and scholars.
During the period under report 1450 scholars visited the Library.
They were extended reading, reference and consultation facilities
on requests and were also provided with photocopying facilities.
The Centre keeps Newspaper clippings of popular articles on various
aspect of history, philosophy etc. for use of scholars
The North East Regional Centre (NERC) of ICHR
The Centre undertakes to publish research articles, presented
in regular lecture series, Seminar proceedings etc. Under this
programme the centre has published ten lecture series apart from
the Seminar proceedings entitled, "Sources: Construction and
Reconstruction of South Indian History" edited by Dr. N. Rajendran.
The ten published booklets lecture series programme was released
by the Chairman ICHR in Bangalore on 23.6.2006.
The work regarding publication of proceeding of the seminars on
"History of Water and Land Management- South India (2004) and
a Regional Seminar on 'Notions of History- Historical Writing
on South India (2001) is in progress.
The Centre takes part in various Annual Conferences/Seminar of
South and exhibits the Council's publications thereat. During
the period under report the Centre has attended six such Annual
Conferences/ Seminars etc.
The Centre has brought out the CD ROM on Epigraphia Carnatica
Volumes and sold 40 copies of the CD during the reporting year.
Special Lecture
1. Special Lecture I:
Organized from 14th to 16th September 2006, Professor Lee Haring,
Professor Emeritus, Department of English, Brooklyn College, delivered
the lectures on the following themes.
a) Oral Literary Criticism
b) Creolisation and Indian Ocean Folkore
c) Folkore and Performance Theory
2. Special Lecture II:
Organized from 23rd to 25th November 2006, it was delivered by
Dr. Judith-Rae Ross, Adjunct Professor, Department of History,
DePaul University, Chicago on the following themes.
a) Master Historian or Propagandist: "Will the Real William
Shakespeare please stand up?'
b) At the Intersection of Disease & History: Musins about Lenin,
Henry VIII and Ronald Reagon
c) Recipe for Exploding Soupe a La Volatile: Women, Politics
& History
During the period under report the centre has organized
the following seminars:-
1. National Seminar on "The Tribes, Peasants and Modern Identity
in the North Eastern India Circa 1800-2000 AD" held during
5th to 7th April, 2006.
2. National Seminar on "From Orality to writing: Understanding
hundred years of charge in Mizoram" held during 2nd May to
4th May 2006.
Under the Lecture Series programme, the NERC has organized seven
lectures delivered by prominent historians including the one delivered
by Dr. Makiko Kimurra, Research Fellow (PD), JSPS, Tokyo University,
Japan on 11th January, 2007.
The Centre has brought out publication of five lectures delivered
by the historians of repute under the lecture series programme.
